Have you ever found a product you love so much that you used it every day and you wanted to tell all your friends and family about it? Well it definitely happened to me with my facial sunscreen. I use EltaMD’s UV Clear SPF 46 to start off every single day.
How I found EltaMD UV Clear
I first heard about EltaMD after attending my very first dermatology conference back in January of 2015. They were one of the exhibitors who handed out samples to the conference attendees in order to build awareness of their fabulous products. When I went home and rifled through my goodies bag, replete with sunscreens, lotions, and serums, I found the EltaMD UV physical nestled inside. I used that product daily on my face for about eight months until I attended another conference and was introduced to the EltaMD UV Clear. Much like after using my first EltaMD product, I fell in love. You’ll be glad to know they are paying me nothing for writing this; I truly love their products and use their sunscreen daily on own my face.
Why this sunscreen?
The UV Clear sunscreen is different from other facial sunscreens I’ve used in the past because it feels like a makeup quality product but it’s got sunscreen level sun protection inside. Before I was a Derm Princess (who can even remember such a time right?) I was a normal person who thought BB cream, foundation, or whatever was going to be enough to protect me from daily sun exposure. I used to put on my foundation and move on to my eyes right away. Now I’ve basically traded out the foundation layer for a tinted sunscreen. I like how the pump bottle delivers the perfect amount. When I have extra time or it’s the weekend I will usually start with my UV clear sunscreen then add foundation on top, but for the day to day I get enough coverage from a great tinted sunscreen like EltaMD’s UV Clear.
The consistency is not mousse-like or creamy, unlike some other facial sunscreens I’ve used in the past. It feels liquid and easy to spread with minimal rubbing. That’s why I like it for day to day. I don’t like starting my make up application with a red splotchy face from excessive rubbing. The lightweight formula means it doesn’t clog pores (aka non-comedogenic) and can be used on acne prone skin. It’s also fragrance and oil free for my readers with sensitive skin.
The other thing I like about this sunscreen is that it comes in tinted and untinted formulations. My boyfriend and I can both use the tinted sunscreen without looking like our skin colors are different or streaky even though we have markedly different skin tones. Like I’ve been saying, it blends really well! The untinted formula is perfect for men who don’t want to look shiny or like they’ve put product on.
And lastly, it’s got SPF 46. Not SPF 10 like the BB cream I was using a year ago. Most facial sunscreens on the market today hover around the minimum recommended SPF 30. Is SPF 46 a weird number for a sunscreen? Yes. But it’s greater than 30 and I’m happy with it.
The pump bottle is also cool. I like how it delivers a uniform amount every time. There’s nothing wasted!

Where to Buy this Face Sunscreen
EltaMD sells exclusively through licensed dispensing physicians. You can go to this page in order to find the closest authorized physician seller: eltamd.com/where-to-buy. If leaving your house and getting into your car is too much work (thank you Internet) then you can buy authorized products from lovelyskin.com ($32 and free shipping) and skincarerx.com ($32 and free shipping >$49). These sites also have coupons for first time buyers. I have never used these websites to order and can’t comment on them, but EltaMD seems to trust them. The company can’t guarantee the authenticity of any products on other websites like Amazon ($21.15 and free 2 day shipping with prime). It’s safe to say Amazon rarely lets me down, and you can always return whatever you don’t like.
Does this special process make it slightly harder to buy? Sort of, but it’s totally worth it and I promise you’ll love it.
